Career Mentorship Seminar: Beyond Qualifications
On 23 July 2026, Edge Point Solutions Ltd hosted a career mentorship seminar for a section of students at The Kisumu National Polytechnic, themed "Why Qualified Professionals Fail to Get Shortlisted for Interviews, and How to Fix It."
Presented by Kenneth Otieno — Project Management Professional, Professional Positioning & Career Advancement Strategist, Author and Youth Mentor at Edge Point Solutions Ltd — the session walked students through how to stand out, get shortlisted for interviews and accelerate their careers beyond academic qualifications.
A highlight of the seminar was the Five-Part Formula for a winning cover letter:
- Opening — state the position, mention where you saw the vacancy, and capture the employer's attention.
- Why You? — highlight your relevant qualifications, skills and achievements.
- Why This Organization? — show you've researched the organization and explain why you want to work there.
- Why You're the Right Fit — connect your experience to the employer's needs and demonstrate the value you'll bring.
- Closing — express enthusiasm, request an interview, and thank the recruiter professionally.
